1 / 5The Peak Tram
๐ Central, Hong Kong Island
Asia's first cable railway takes families on a thrilling 6-minute journey up Victoria Peak for breathtaking city and harbour panoramas.
I see lots of reviews saying to buy tickets online, buy in advance, don't go on the weekend, and avoid the long lines. We arrived at 9:40am on a Sunday, waited a minute in line, bought our tickets with a credit card in person, and walked right through the turnstile with no issues. When we boarded the tram, an aggressive woman tried pushing her way past me, and her attack was repulsed. Otherwise, the ride up the mountain was glorious, and a must do for visitors to this beautiful city. There are so many intricate views between buildings built into the mountainside. And it's wild to realize the pitch of your journey, as you are only halfway vertical, while the parking garage alongside you is fully horizontal. The views up at the peak are worth your wait and your tram fee. We did not pay anything additional for the highest viewing area, as all the other viewing areas provided more than enough vistas for us. There are several eateries, souvenir shops, bathrooms, and sitting areas for you to spend hours up here. And we went when the fog prevented us from seeing much past the initial mile or so of Kowloon's waterfront. It was still worth it.
๐ Family Action Verdict
An essential Hong Kong experience that combines history, thrills, and unbeatable views perfect for creating family memories.

โThe Peak Tram is one of those โclassicโ Hong Kong things that is actually worth doing. The ride up is fun in a slightly strange way, with the buildings slowly tilting as you climb the mountain. Once you get to the top, the view over Victoria Harbour, Kowloon and the surrounding islands really puts the scale of the city into perspective. Yes, it gets busy, but it is well organised and moves quickly. The ride itself is smooth and easy, and it is a great way to experience Hong Kong from above, especially later in the day as the city lights start to come on.โ

โRiding the 6th-generation Peak Tram remains an essential Hong Kong experience, blending 130 years of history with a sleek, modern upgrade that features massive panoramic windows and increased capacity. The nearly 45-degree ascent provides a thrilling "optical illusion" where the cityโs skyscrapers appear to lean into the mountainside, culminating in a breathtaking reveal of Victoria Harbour from the summit. Ultimately, for the combination of nostalgic charm and those unbeatable, sky-high views of the skyline, it is absolutely worth the price on a clear day. Best Time to Visit : Weekdays before 10:00 AM or after 8:00 PM to avoid crowds. For views, arrive 1 hour before sunset to see the city in both daylight and neon. Seat Strategy: When going UP, sit on the right-hand side for the best views of the skyline. Weather Check: Hong Kong can be misty in the spring (March/April). Maintenance Alert: The tram is scheduled for a short maintenance break from March 9โ12, 2026. If you're visiting then, you'll need to take Bus 15 or a taxi.โ

โThe Peak Tram ride was an excellent experience and one of the highlights of the visit. The tram itself is clean, smooth, and very well managed. The climb and descent feel unique because of the steep angle, and the city views keep getting better as you move along. Itโs really worth waiting a bit and getting a front row seat especially while going down because the view through the front glass is amazing and gives a thrilling perspective of the skyline and slope. Great photo opportunity and a memorable ride overall. Definitely a must-try attraction.โ
