1 / 5Edward Youde Aviary
📍 Central, Hong Kong Island
Free walk-through bird sanctuary inside Hong Kong Park featuring over 530 birds including parrots, peacocks, and tropical species. Elevated walkways allow close-up encounters.
The Aviary in Hong Kong Park is a wonderful place and captive ecosystem. The aviary is compact but still a good size and immaculately maintained and presented. The birds inside appear very happy and healthy and it was fantastic to be able to get up close with some of them. There is plenty of information dotted around the aviary offering a great understanding into the wildlife and their natural habitats. Cleaners are constantly patrolling the elevated walkways ensuring visitors hands are kept clean from the random bird droppings…!! This is a great place to visit and absorb yourself into nature for a while.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 2–10 who respond to close animal encounters and outdoor calm. The free entry and stroller-accessible paths make it a low-effort addition to any Hong Kong Park or Admiralty visit. Children who startle easily around birds should be prepared — some species fly at close range on the walkways.

“As stranger as it is to say, one of my favorite things that I did in Hong Kong was visit this aviary! It’s kind of an unknown gem or at least not one frequented and was an absolute joy to visit. It was out of the the ordinary in terms of tourist traps, but it was still very fun and relaxing to visit. The variety of birds was quite impressive. So if you are a bird lover, I highly recommend this aviary.”

“The Edward Youde Aviary, located within Hong Kong Park, is a fascinating oasis right in the heart of the city. It’s conveniently accessible, though there’s a short uphill walk if you’re coming from Pacific Place mall. Once inside, the aviary feels worlds away from the surrounding skyscrapers. The range of bird species is impressive — from small, colorful birds flying freely above the elevated walkways to parrots and elegant peacocks that wander the grounds. The larger birds usually stay closer to the forest floor, so visitors often need to look down from the sky bridge to spot them, which adds to the immersive, multi-level experience. In addition to the open aviary, there is also a dedicated caged display area featuring hornbills and striking crowned pigeons, giving visitors an up-close look at these unique and charismatic species. At times, staff members will share information about the birds, usually in Cantonese, adding an educational and personal touch to the visit. Overall, the Edward Youde Aviary is a relaxing and enriching escape — perfect for nature lovers and anyone looking for a peaceful break in the middle of the city.”

And in the way walk into the aviary, it was an amazing walk, lots of different species of birds and all of them seem to enjoy their space to live.
