1 / 5Kennedy Town Temporary Recreation Ground
📍 Sai Wan, Hong Kong Island
Free outdoor recreation ground in Sai Wan with basketball courts, football fields, and a 150-metre waterfront promenade delivering direct sunset views. Adjacent to a waste treatment plant — afternoon visits on weekdays produce strong chemical odours.
Nice and quiet park with basketball and football fields. You can also have a very good evening sunset walk along the waterfront path.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best visited on weekend mornings or weekday mornings when odours from the adjacent waste treatment plant are absent. The sunset promenade walk is a genuine highlight for families with older children. Active kids get basketball and football space at no cost.

“Kennedy Town Temporary ground. It seems to be a non existent promenade within industrial building groups. It is a very short stretch of waterfront about 150 M and it is a good location for watching sunset. To access here , take any bus using Kennedy Town bus terminus as an end stop. From here walk 10 minutes along Sai Ning St. One has to watch out for the small entrance to the promenade. Next to it is the playground where a lots of kids are using it as a roller skate skating ring. The Sun sets next to Lamma Island which is right in front of the Promenade. Easy approach with great views of Lamma Island and sunsets should make this a place a frequent site for sunset viewers but strangely it is not crowed with photographers. Pershaps because of its hidden situation and lack of touristic attractions. It was visited onJuly-8-2022 Written 11-8-2022”

Overview
Kennedy Town Temporary Recreation Ground sits on the Sai Wan waterfront, combining basketball courts, football fields, and a short 150-metre promenade with unobstructed sunset views over the water. Kids use the open ground for roller skating in addition to ball sports. The venue sits directly beside a waste treatment plant — reviewers consistently report strong chemical and rubbish odours during weekday afternoons as treatment cycles run.
