Free museum built into the decommissioned Alexander Grantham fireboat, which served Hong Kong from 1953 to 2002. Walk the full deck, explore the cabin, and examine original equipment including the signature red water hoses.

A really excellent display and a well maintained fireboat. You can see the history of the Alexander Grantham with some fantastic photographs and artifacts, before entering the deck. The cabin area is small but very interesting and the bright red water hoses are very nice. The staff at the entrance are very welcoming and friendly. It may not be one of HKโ€™s top attractions but itโ€™s certainly worth an hour of your time.

๐Ÿ† Family Action Verdict

Best for children aged four and above who respond to full-scale, real vehicles โ€” the boat's physical scale makes an immediate impression that models and photographs cannot replicate. The cabin spaces are tight, which adds to the authentic feel and limits access for large pushchairs. Free entry removes any barrier to a short visit.

โ„น๏ธ What to Know Before You Go

๐Ÿ’กPhotography is permitted throughout the vessel โ€” video recording is not allowed
โฐThe cabin spaces are narrow โ€” fold pushchairs before boarding and carry toddlers through the tighter interior sections
๐ŸŽŸ๏ธStaff at the entrance provide context on the fireboat's history โ€” ask before heading aboard for a better-informed visit
๐Ÿš—Combine with a walk east along the Quarry Bay waterfront, which reaches a quieter bay in approximately 10 minutes

โ€œYou can take photo but cannot record. This is a well-preserved historical boat. Now the whole boat serves as a mini museum with relevant items of the unit during colonial periodโ€

Overview

The Alexander Grantham served Hong Kong's waters for nearly five decades before being permanently moored at Quarry Bay Park as a walk-through museum. Visitors board the full-sized vessel and move through the deck and original cabin spaces, which remain fitted with the boat's actual firefighting equipment โ€” most visibly the bright red water hoses. Exhibition panels featuring archival photographs document sea rescue operations from the colonial period.
