1 / 5UNESCO Geopark Volcano Discovery Centre
๐ Sai Kung, New Territories
Interactive museum showcasing Hong Kong's volcanic history through geological samples, visuals, and guided shuttle tours to rock formations.
I took a taxi here cos a bit afar out by public transport. Cost hkd$200 from Tsim Shah Sui. I wanted to join their cruise but was told there was no cruise at this time only a land tour for the east Dam at 2 pm. I was there at 11 am and wasnโt keen to wait. So two lady staffs were super nice and taught me to get to east dam via public transport on my own. You take bus 94 from the terminal just beside the centre to Pak Tam Chung bus station takes about 20 mins and change to minibus A9, total roughly ukd$20 one way super easy with digi octopus card to travel in HK. A9 brings u all the way to the Dam. Such a beautiful place esp the rock formations so close up! I spent 3 hours here. I ended up doing the MacLehose trail back and forth cause this trail ends in beach and you have to hike back up total 2 hrs, v crowded on a sat with many teenagers! But it was worth it beautiful views! From the dam you take A9 n back to Pak tam Chung terminal and from there you can take 94 back to volcanic Center at Sai Kung or R96 back to Diamond hill station 1 hr ride to take the train back. I didnโt expect such a wonderful day when I visited the centre and really want to say a big thank u to the two kind ladies for guiding me! Thank u so much!
๐ Family Action Verdict
An excellent educational outing where children can learn about geology through interactive exhibits and guided field trips to real volcanic rock formations.

โcan check out the package tours offered at the site - well worth the money for foreigners! the tour has no minimum group number so if youโre the only one like I was, you get a 1-to-1 guide! the tour guide was very passionate, professional and knowledgeable - she shared facts about the rock formations in the whole of Hong Kong and even abit about the wildlife there! she also helped take many photos!โ
