1 / 5Hong Kong Museum of Art
📍 Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon
Hong Kong Museum of Art holds over 19,700 artworks across multiple floors. A personality quiz at entry routes visitors through tailored exhibits. Most floors are free; Level 2 special exhibitions charge separately. Harbour views throughout.
Very immersive experience. The labels were very informative and interesting. We initially only planned to spend only our morning here but ended up leaving in the late afternoon. The gift shop was also really nice, some of the products were related to the exhibits. The gift shop was also really nice, some of the products were related to the exhibits. I do wish some of the signs were bigger and more visible, though. We didn’t realise that photography was not allowed in certain areas until we saw the sign on the other end of the room or heard the employees warning other visitors.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for children aged 7 and above who engage with the interactive quiz routing system and can absorb exhibit labels. The snuff bottle collection surprises younger children with its intricacy. Free admission across most floors removes the cost barrier for extended or repeat visits.

“Absolutely fantastic museum. Particularly love that they have modern interpretations alongside the historical art. I love that you follow a theme throughout the exhibits where you select your personality in a quiz and then it recommendeds exhibits and eras. This could seem gimmicky but actually helped me remember sections. I absolutely loved the contrast in the different periods of calligraphy and also the glass snuff pots.”

“Great museum! Multiple floors… free exhibits, beautiful view of the river. Very clean and nice. There’s also a cafe and restaurant on the second floor, as well as a little gift shop. Def recommend!”

“HKMOA- Great location near the Lego land and overlooking the harbour. Free entry apart from level 2. Modern, clean and nicely displayed areas. There are various designs of snuff bottles donated from a previous collector from Hongkong - very interesting and unique. Happy with our visit.”

Overview
The museum uses a personality-matching quiz to route visitors through themed collections — a mechanic that reviewers report works better than it sounds, creating genuine investment in the exhibits that follow. Collections span Chinese paintings, calligraphy, and a notably diverse snuff bottle display donated by a Hong Kong collector. Modern interpretations sit alongside historical pieces throughout, giving children a reference point for older works.
