1 / 3Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum
📍 Pok Fu Lam, Hong Kong Island
Hong Kong's first biodiversity museum at HKU offering free 45-minute guided tours and hands-on microscope workshops. Children examine insect specimens up close. Free entry. Advance booking required. Ages 5+. Near HKU MTR Exit A1.
Overall a very fun experience. The museum tour is informative. The microscope workshop's the best where you can have a closer look on the fine details of different insects. The guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. Feel free to ask them questions if you want to know more about anything related to the exhibits. Could use a few more guides in each session tho. Most of the time you have to wait for a while to ask your questions after the guides have done replying the other visitors
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for children aged 5–12 with curiosity about nature, insects, or science. The guided format keeps younger children focused and engaged for the full 45 minutes. Children who ask a lot of questions get the most from the session — guides actively welcome and reward curiosity. Advance booking is non-negotiable; walk-ins are not accommodated.

Overview
The Hong Kong Biodiversity Museum sits on the HKU campus and runs free 45-minute guided tours through curated collections of local flora and fauna specimens. The microscope workshop is the centrepiece activity — children examine insect specimens at magnification, revealing structural details invisible to the naked eye. Guides are knowledgeable, attentive, and responsive to children's questions throughout. The museum is small in physical scale and dense in educational content.
