๐ Tsuen Wan, New Territories
Free museum in a converted Tsuen Wan cotton mill tracing Hong Kong's textile industry. Features the Illumin-Loom interactive design station, rotating contemporary art exhibitions, and weekend 30-minute hands-on making workshops.
Besides the permanent exhibition showcasing the spinning factory that used to occupy part of the old cotton mill, thereโs also a rotating exhibit. I saw Gulnur Mukazhanova: Dowry of the Soul and it was beautifully poignant, making me consider the labour and a piece of the creator that goes into each piece of garment.
๐ Family Action Verdict
Best for children aged 5+ who engage with making and design, and for families with an interest in Hong Kong industrial history. The Illumin-Loom works well for children aged 5โ12. Weekday visits deliver a quieter experience with full access to audio-visual exhibits. Bespoke textile birthday parties are bookable for groups.

โA spacious exhibition hall with interactive device, for the Illumin-Loom device, you are able to create your own design and even turn it into physical forms. The staff are polite and will provide guidance during visit. Great place for all-ages.โ

โGreat exhibitions on textile art and history. As a fashion design student, Iโve been here a few times and all these exhibitions and curations have never failed to amaze. Really nice place to learn about the history of the textile industry of Hong Kong and appreciate art. The images are from their exhibition on textile artist Gulnur Mukazhanova, which is held until 1/3/2026โ

Overview
CHAT occupies part of the former South China Textile Mill in Tsuen Wan, preserving original spinning machinery alongside contemporary art exhibitions. The Illumin-Loom device lets children create their own textile patterns and produce them in physical form โ one of few genuinely interactive stations in any Hong Kong museum. Weekend making workshops run 30-minute sessions accessible to children. Rotating exhibitions bring international artists alongside the permanent mill history displays.
